We prefer exploring on foot when we can because you never know what you might miss between destinations. There are many interesting Buddhist temples around the city that would be missed if you didn't walk a bit. Our area of Colombo actually has lots of usable sidewalks, so we're taking advantage of it.
Exploring on foot is also good exercise to get your steps. We got about 13,000 steps by making a big loop around to the Lotus Tower and then to Galle Face Green on the seaside. I gave up at that point and ordered a Tuk Tuk to take us home from there even though my wife was ready to continue the walk home.
There's a walkway along Beira Lake to the Lotus Tower called Linear Park, but we had to walk down the streets because it was closed. I saw an online story from 2023 that said it opened in 2017 but it's now neglected and in disrepair. That's too bad since it would very convenient for us to enjoy it more often. The north part of the walkway was open and walkable, but the benches were mostly broken. Otherwise, we had a good walk. Here's some of the views.

Apparently I didn't take any pics of the actual Galle Face Green, which is an open area along the seaside where people hang out and events are held. The beach is at one end and these pics are focused on the sea, the huge flag, and kites. There's a bunch of food stands, open areas, and lots of people hanging out, but I generally failed to take those kinds of pictures. I guess I just focus on the good stuff.
