Pettah in Colombo Sri Lanka

We took a guided tour of the more hidden parts of Colombo with a focus on Pettah. We went there on our own once because that's where you find a lot of the affordable little shops. There's a big produce market which is pictured above. It's a busy area where we saw some interesting sights including an old government building, a popular mosque with the tourists, and an old hidden neighborhood Hindu temple which doesn't show up on Google Maps with a name.

First, here's the Old Town Hall Building and Museum which could use some repairs. There's a display of mannequins around a conference table which most tourists don't go up to see because you don't know about it without a guide. I don't recall exactly what this was all about, but it was an interesting sight. There's some old equipment and vehicles in an outside museum which is easier to find if you wander around this area.

We went up to a rooftop for views of the area.

We toured inside the red & white mosque called the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque

I lost count of how many floors it had for prayer as we headed to the roof

from a mosque to Hindu temples

this is actually a gateway to a little neighborhood and the temple is inside and around the corner

this is an old neighborhood temple and the passage of time adds greatly to its character
