Castle Of The Livonian Order In Sigulda

Siguldas Viduslaiku pils (Castle Of The Livonian Order In Sigulda) is a great place to hang out. The castle compound has some interesting shops, food, and ice cream. It's about an hour away from Riga by car. We took the train to Sigulda last summer and explored Turaida Castle, so see that post for another Sigulda tourist spot.

Turaida Castle is the better castle with much more museum stuff to see and bigger grounds with an interesting sculpture garden to walk around. There isn't as much left of this castle but it's still worthwhile for what is restored. The restored tower overlooking the river has great views. You can see Turaida Castle on the other side but my camera's zoom was needed to get the closer look you see in the pictures further down.

Some "guards" as you approach the compound

What's that on the other side of the river? Turaida Castle!

we ended the day trip with ice cream and they were playing opera with these mannequins
