Colombo National Museum - First Floor

Living overseas allows us to be slow tourists. We explored the first floor of the nearby Colombo National Museum and started getting hungry. It was easy to break for lunch and come back another day instead of powering through to see the entire museum in one visit like a typical tourist experience. We may not come back very soon because we're busy for the holidays, but we have plenty of time to return. Here's a look at just the first floor of this museum filled with historical artifacts of Sri Lanka.

Founded in 1877, it holds collections of significant importance to Sri Lanka, such as the regalia of the Kandyan monarchs, as well as many other exhibits relating the country's cultural and natural heritage.

The museum has a copy of the Statue of Tara, a three-quarter life size statue of Tara currently held in the British Museum. The crown jewels and the throne of the last King of Kandy, which were returned to Sri Lanka by the British Government, were added to the museum collection. Ground floor galleries are arranged in historical sequence, and upper galleries thematically. (Wikipedia)

We left for lunch at a Japanese restaurant in Park Street Mews, which is an alley with several nice restaurants. We also tried a really cute coffee shop that's between the museum and our apartment. It's called Ibson's Choice Cafe 2.0 because there's a first one that this is modeled after. This is a great area to live!
