
The
Dambulla Cave Temple (or Golden Rock Temple) is a 1st-century B.C. UNESCO World Heritage site in Sri Lanka, renowned as the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in the country. Located on a 160-meter high rock, it features five main caves adorned with over 150 Buddha statues, intricate paintings, and 2,100 square meters of murals.

Established in the 1st century BC by King Valagambahu, who sought refuge there, the caves were later enhanced by various kings, including King Nissankamalla who added 70+ Buddha statues in the 12th century.
