The south bus tour compares well with the north tour. This included the Tarxien Temples, the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, and the Blue Grotto. Be sure to book well in advance for the Hypogeum near the Tarxien Temples if you're interested in ancient temples. It looked like it'd be really neat but we couldn't get in because we didn't book it several weeks or months in advance.
The Tarxien Temple is an ancient megalithic temple that you should check out. The oldest one is on Gozo but this one is a bit more well-formed in comparison. It's also under a protective and shaded cover so it might be good when it's hot out.
Marsaxlokk was a great place to hang out and have fresh fish at the many waterside restaurants. There's also some shopping stalls selling cheaper stuff than the city shops.
Blue Grotto has boat tours to see some sea caves. It was colder and the water was choppy so we opted not to do it. It's still a nice scenic stop without taking a boat tour. We had a coffee and dessert overlooking the water which was more relaxing than tossing about in a small boat in the cold.
The tour started through the 3 cities across ffrom Valletta. We saw enough from the bus that we didn't need to get out and wander an area that looked a good bit like Valletta.
actually a replica of the original we saw in the museum
