Egyptian Museums

We visited The Egyptian Museum (The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities) as part of a private tour guide day. We took an Uber on our own to The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Both are a must see if you're in Cairo.

I planned this trip in the hope for the new Grand Egyptian Museum to be open. It was 99% done and supposed to open in November when I booked everything. However, it's delayed to 2023 sometime now, though special guest groups have started going through according to a story while we were there.

The Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum has great stuff to see, but it's showing its age. The biggest thing is the Tutankhamun exhibit. I don't have any pictures because they're not allowed. You'll just have to trust me when I say it's an awesome sight to see. You also have to go in person to see it or go find other pictures on the web. The Internet has everything, so I'm sure the whole exhibit can be seen somewhere.

does that count as a wink?

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

This museum was opened in 2021, so it's nice and new with a good overview of Egyptian civilization. One of the highlights is the Royal Mummies Hall. The hall has 18 Kings and 2 Queens.

Once again, the "crown jewel" exhibit of a museum can't be photographed, so you won't be seeing any of them here. I don't want a mummy's curse by taking their picture when I'm not supposed to do it. They're down in a basement so it feels like wandering around Egyptian tombs. You try to take their picture with that kind of vibe in the air if you really want some pictures.
