The Louvre is world renowned and amazing so I don't need to write much. It's more fun and challenging taking pictures of statues from different angles instead of the paintings so most of my pics appear to be of statues and ceilings.
There was a longish security line outside. We immediately got our tickets from a kiosk after going down inside the pyramid since the lines inside were non-existent. The national strike reduced the crowds but the museum had several major sections closed. I think it was a fair trade with all things considered.
macabre
people lined up for a selfie with a somewhat overrated painting
they're waiting to see the Mona Lisa and not paying much attention to the huge amazing paintings around the room
a selfie! but why?
Yes, they were here. I was too.
Look at the great art the people mostly ignored around them just to be in front of the Mona Lisa. I wonder how many people headed straight for it as the major sight of their day? The whole museum was the sight of the day for me.
two painting back to back because it's two views of the same scene
a very empty hall because it's closed off for the national strike
accidently caught reflection of an exit sign looks like an arm tattoo on this Swedish artist's sculpture
even statues take a selfie
see the scorpion?
looks smaller until you have people in the pic
Venus de Milo
We learned something new and quite odd. This is Roman Charity. This is the story of a woman, Pero, who secretly breastfeeds her father, Cimon, after he is incarcerated and sentenced to death by starvation. There are many recreations of this odd story made by various artists at the Wikipedia link. You've been warned.
