We continued our journey east to the edge of the open desert. We ended the day with the most stunning views from the highest sand dune that I've ever seen and have definitely ever climbed.
our kitchen truck had the coolest parking spot
We had nice morning walk views as the vehicles finished packing up. They picked us up along the road when they're done.
here they come to get us to end our morning walk
rocks mark another carving site
the little people near the elephants
animal track carvings believed to be used to train others about tracks
I caught a bird taking off
a natural formation in the form of a hedgehog
lunch in the sun, until they put the SUVs next to it to cast a little shade for us
An early tent setup to catch the sunset. See that big dune in the distance? It's a LOT bigger than it looks and that's what we climbed to watch the sunset.
It's at least 120 meters (400 feet) high to a point further up where our guide showed us the change in elevation from the camp. He didn't join us at the top so I'm not sure about the total height.
the moon
Tip: walk along the ridge for the harder packed sand. The right side of these pics has more support for walking.
sun is going down, so I cast a very long shadow
approaching the last climb up a loose sand side, which is so much harder to climb
There's others ahead of us at the top, so this gives a little idea of the scale. We're maybe 2/3, or even 3/4, of the way up compared to the first picture of the dunes. The view at the top was breathtaking.
The view beyond the top was of more dunes as far as I could see. I didn't spot any signs of sandworms. Maybe only on Arrakis... but this felt a bit like being on Arrakis in the movies.
I went down a little from the top for a different angle and different light for these amazing views
sun is setting on the rock side and casting a bigger shadow on the sand side
time to head down before it gets too dark
The end of another glorious day on Earth. This was one of the most beautiful days, where I couldn't help but feel immensely grateful for all of the experiences I've had in life like this.
